Agency offers grants to children of deployed Reserve and
National Guard service members.
The truth is sometime harsh. When Military Reservists and
National Guard members are deployed, their families frequently
suffer. Not only is a parent away away from home, but active
duty often means a pay cut. Finding the money to cover sports
leagues, music lessons or tutoring can be impossible—until now.
Our Military Kids is a non-profit organization that provides
grants to the children of deployed Reserve and National Guard
service members to help meet those "extras" such as
extra-curricular activities and tutoring services. The group has
recently received significant funding and is now seeking
eligible families.
Our Military Kids can provide provide grants up to $500
per child to school age children (K-12. The grants are for
sports programs, fine-arts programs and tutoring services. They
do not cover day care expenses, and are not covering pre-school
children at this time.
If you, or someone you know, is eligible, simply visit the
Our Military Kids website, download and print the simple
one-page application from our web site. Submit the completed
application with a copy of the service member's deployment
orders, and a brochure or
registration information for your child's program or activity.
Our Military Kids will match the size of the grant with the cost
for six months of that activity up to $500. (For example, if the
cost of a child's piano lessons will come to $250 for six
months, the organization will pay $250.
The checks are made to the order of the service provider and
sent directly to the provider. The child will receive a packet
with a congratulatory letter, a certificate of recognition, and
an Our Military Kids patch.
