Visit the new Parent Resource Centers on April 8 from 5-8 pm
Centers will give parents tools to help their children in
everything from early reading to college financial aid
Fonda-Fultonville Central School will unveil its
“Parent Resource Centers” on Wednesday, April 8th, 5-8 p.m.
during parent conference night. The newly created centers in
each building's Media Center (library) are designed to provide
support and to encourage parents to be more involved with the
school and their children’s education.
When visiting the centers, parents can access
computers and the Internet to assist their children with
homework and other issues as well as to do research. The centers
are stocked with a variety of articles, books and material on
topics appropriate to the building level such as normal child
development, discipline, nutrition in the elementary school;
study skills, dealing with pre-teens and teens, bullying in the
middle school; and preparation for Regents Exams, substance
abuse, and financial aid for college in the high school. Copies
of materials are available to take and books can be signed out.
During the evening, the library media
specialists will review the on-line media and data bases that
the community and student can access via the Internet. There
will also be demonstrations on how to navigate the FFCSD website
in the elementary and middle/high school computer centers.
These centers have been in planning for
approximately a year. They are the result of the work the
Academic Intervention Services Self-Review Committee has been
doing to improve services for the FFCSD students. This committee
determined the need for increased support for parents as they
deal with the academic, social and emotional needs of their
children.
During the rest of the year, we hope to have one
or more of the centers open on the following dates:
-

-
