Senior Shane Smith captures state discus title
After tearing up the Section II competition during the regular
season, senior track standout Shane Smith proved himself to be
the state's top discus thrower at the NYSPHSAA Track
Championships July 11-12 in Vestal, NY.
Shane captured the Division II title (small public schools) with
a throw of 182' 9". He went on to take the NYS Federation discus
title (all schools large and small, public and private) throwing
170' 9".
His success continued in the shot put pit. He threw 57' 4" for
second place in Division II and 58' 6 1/2" for second in the
Federation championships.
Shane is Fonda-Fultonville's first individual state champ since
Aaron Kimball in 2000.
