Fonda-Fultonville rates excellent in state
audit
Fonda-Fultonville Central School District was
named as one of just 39 school districts that received an
excellent ranking by State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli after his
office's audit of New York's 733 school districts.
The audits looked at:
-
School finances—Did the district spend money
in accordance with the law? Did it maintain accurate records
in accordance with accepted accounting principles? Did it
maintain an appropriate and not excessive fund balance?
-
Financial procedures—Were sufficient
controls in place such as inventory monitoring,
recordkeeping, reimbursement policies, separation of
financial duties, bidding policies, etc. to ensure
integrity?
DiNapoli admitted that the number of serious
violations were minimal.
"We found the overwhelming majority of school
districts are honest, ethical and care only about providing the
best education possible," he said at Feb. 9 news conference.
The media, however, focused more on the
violations against those districts who were found with problems
ranging from poor accounting of equipment to excessive fund
balances.
"This is great news for Fonda-Fultonville and
our taxpayers," said Superintendent Dr. James Hoffman. "I hope
this helps everyone in the community know that the district is
working hard to be careful and use the tax dollars entrusted to
us properly."
