Art
show sports Native American theme
Visitors strolling down the elementary school hallway on
Saturday, June 5 discovered an amazing collection of drawing and
paintings portraying Native American stories and culture. The
student art was part of art teacher Kathleen Bushek's Elementary
Art Show Pow Wow.
 To
prepare, each student studied the culture and then worked hard
to include the culture's values of nature and character in their
works. Examples included students renderings of the Big Turtle
Creation story (North America was created when water animals
layered mud on the back of Big Turtle) and Native American
musicians.
Inside
the gym, the Cook family—Clifford Cook and his grandchildren
Alyk, Kennedy, Aaidyn, and Ella—presented Native American dance
and music. Students joined in the “Candy Dance”, a good
introduction to Native Dancing. Many students got a chance to
beat the big pow wow drum.
Parents and students cast their votes for their favorite works
of art. The winners of the “Viewer’s Choice Award’s” are
-
kindergarten – Lauren Sisco
-
1st grade- Lexie Warner
-
2nd grade- Emma Agnes and Ella Cook
-
3rd grade – Matthew Bowler
-
4th grade- Nicholas Demitraszek.
