Film as Literature
In English 9, we
use film and television regularly as literature. Film has the same elements as
literature (i.e. theme, symbolism, characterization, plot,
conflict, setting, etc.), and is useful in developing skills
that can also be applied to the written word. Film is not used
for entertainment, but instead as another means to develop
analytical skills. Some of the films we cover include:
9th
Sleepy Hollow (compare/contrast film and literature)
"Murder, She Wrote" (elements of a mystery)
The Village (Task III Regents essay with Gathering Blue)
