IMPORTANT: Students must be registered IN ADVANCE to attend - this is not a drop-in program!  All paperwork must be submitted and then the  Program Coordinator or Family Support Specialist contacts the parent(s) regarding the date the student may begin program.

Program Coordinator Joan Draus (853-4747 ext. 4090) is available by appointment to enroll your Middle School student during the summer.  Please call (365-0041) or email her (
jdraus@ffcsd.org).

Program Basis: Mounting evidence shows that how children occupy their time during non-school hours is directly related to their ability to achieve in school and contribute to society. The majority of crimes committed against or by youth are during the critical hours of 3 pm and 8 pm. These are also the hours when youth are most likely to engage in risky behaviors without adult supervision.

Recent studies suggest that regular attendance in a good after-school program can help improve student success. The system of Advantage After-School programs was established by the NYS Office of Children and Family Services to offer educational, socialization and recreational activities in safe and accessible places during non-school hours.  After-school programs offer enrichment opportunities that students might not otherwise be exposed. Finally, students receive reinforcement of appropriate social skills and character development.

  • Enrollment: All students in grades 5 - 8 who live in the Fonda-Fultonville school district are eligible to attend.  Registration Packets are available in the Middle School Office. Before your student begins program, all paperwork must be submitted and parents contacted by the Program Coordinator or Family Support Specialist.   Mrs. Draus is also available during the summer to answer your questions and register students.  Please call 365-0041 for further information.

  • Wrap-Around Method: This is an important benefit offered to all Middle School students who participate in school-sponsored activities such as sports, band and clubs AND our program! Students must first be enrolled in the After-School Program and, with parent permission, may travel between activities, such as soccer, marching band or Builder’s Club. This wrap-around permits students a wide-range of after-school opportunities.  Students don’t have to choose which after-school activities to join, and parents have a greater sense of safety, knowing that their children are in good hands. Additionally, if practice ends early, students return to the After-School Program until the parent arrives to take him/her home. It’s a win-win situation for students and parents!

  • Program Activities: This year’s program promises many new and exciting activities! In addition to snack and homework assistance, students are presented with numerous opportunities to experience diverse computer activities, arts and crafts, forensic sciences, social skill development, cooking and baking, gardening, character education, fitness and health, group games, money management, careers and service learning projects.  There will doubtless be other activities as the year proceeds!

  • Days and FeesThe Program is open from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm every day that school is open a full day.  There is no cost for students to attend. However, there is no transportation home - students must be picked up before 5:30 pm or incur a Late-Fee.

I look forward to meeting you, answering your questions, and enrolling your son/daughter in the Advantage After-School Program so he/she may benefit from the many fun-filled experiences offered this year!
