2010-11 supply lists
Although each of teachers will send a supply list home, we know
that papers sometimes get lost.
We have placed copies online just in case:
Middle
school stretches its legs for Cystic Fibrosis
About 100 middle school students took to the
track on May 27 for the Builders Club annual Cystic
Fibrosis Mini March. Marchers raised $1389.89 in donations from
friends and family. Representatives from the Cystic Fibrosis
Foundation were on hand to speak about the disease and to
explain how the donations are used. (full

Fulmont
award recognizes school-wide citizenship
Ask middle school principal Beth Donovan if her
students are self-centered and she will answer with a
resounding, "No!" In fact, she proudly points to the middle school
student government's annual food drive as a prime example of
just how unfair it is when people claim today's preteens care
only for themselves.
In November, student government organized a
school-wide food drive to support Fulmont Action Agency's local
food pantry. This year, that drive collected over 3000 canned
and boxed items that Fulmont distributed to area families. (learn

Is your emergency contact information up-to-date?
If your child became seriously ill at school, could we reach
you? If there were an emergency school closing, how would we let
you know?
Whether for a snow day or some school emergency, school
officials occasionally need to contact parents/guardians with
important information. We rely on the emergency contact
information that you provide at the beginning of each year. But,
people move; phone numbers and e-mail addresses change. In the
event of an emergency, could we reach you? Don't leave things to
chance; please contact your school with any changes to your
emergency contact information.
"National Mix It Up Day" helps stop division
in school
Fonda-Fultonville Middle School joined 2883
schools across the nation on "National Mix It Up
Day" on Tuesday, Nov. 10.
"Mix It Up Day" is a simple call to action:
take a new seat in the cafeteria. By making the move, students
can cross the invisible lines of school division, meet new
people and make new friends. "Mix it Up at Lunch Day" helps
students become more comfortable interacting with different
kinds of people. (full

Seventh
graders take a stroll through history
Members of the seventh grade Talented and Gifted

area's past on a special field trip Wednesday, Oct. 14. The
group toured the Little Red School House, Old Fort Johnson, the
Montgomery County Archives, and the Fonda Cemetery. (full

Keeping
safe on the Internet
What would most parents do if a stranger walked
up to their child and began whispering? What would happen if
that stranger asked to meet secretly with the child or tried to
show an inappropriate photo or video? The answer is obvious—the
parents would intercede and call the police if necessary.
That sort of thing happens every day in homes
throughout the area—via the Internet.
In an effort to keep our children safe, the
Middle School Character Education Committee arranged to have
Sergeant David Gilbo of the Johnstown Police visit the students
on Monday, Oct. 5 to speak to our middle school students about
the dangers of the Internet. (full

Hoops
and tips to succeed in school and life
What can you learn
from a woman who feeds a student chocolate pudding as a
basketball spins on the end of the spoon? Our Middle School students
discovered that you can learn a lot—that is when the woman is
basketball showman and motivational speaker Ilze Luneau. (full

Encouraging technology through TechYES
TechYES is an initiative to encourage students to become nationally
certified in technology. As a part of the initiative, each 7th
grade student will complete two technology-based projects during
the year. The TechYES club is open to any 7th and 8th graders
who love technology and want to learn about things like Internet
safety, game making, movie making and website building. The
club meets about twice a month and also works with
students in developing their technology based projects.
Visit Fonda-Fultonville Middle School's TechYES web site.
