TEAM MOHAWK HOMEWORK
Welcome to
Mr. Thompson's classroom! Students who come to my
classroom must always have a pen or pencil, their folder and
floppy binder (with
the materials of the most recent unit inside), and their writing
journal.
CURRENT AS
OF JANUARY 2010: Students have just started a new unit
called The Picture Book Unit. Pre-project activities include
Picture Book summaries, comparisons of certain classic picture
Books such as
Mufaro's Beautiful
Daughters,
and listening quizzes based on such books as
The Bunyans.
The project will involve each student picking a partner and
creating his/her own picture book. The groups will pick
from such genres as fantasy, science fiction, sports/realistic
fiction, historical fiction, folklore, fairy tales, etc.
They must write and draw their stories and have eye-popping
covers!
The
following are the units we will be working on from JANUARY until
JUNE. Units and Dates are subject to change.
SCHEDULE OF UNITS: January -- June

A project in
which students become the teacher and teach how to do
something in front of the class (taking care of animals,
playing instruments, riding a horse, doing a magic trick,
making smoothies, etc.). They must present in steps.

We will be
reading JOEY PIGZA LOSES CONTROL in April/May. The novel
is a sequel to the Jack Gantos novel JOEY PIGZA SWALLOWED THE
KEY. I will be choosing a dfferent reader leader each day
who in turn chooses other students to read aloud. Our
focus will be on vocabulary, characterization, sequence of
events, and themes. The genre is realistic fiction.
