Elementary School named "high performing/gap closing"

On Friday, June 1st, FFCS Superintendent James D. Hoffman announced that the Elementary School has been recognized as a "high performing/gap closing school by the New York State Education Department. The announcement follows a similar announcement late last week awarding the same honor to the Middle School.

"I would like to congratulate Mrs. Henry and the Elementary School staff, and Mrs. Donovan and the Middle School staff." said Dr. Hoffman. "Their work in 2004-2005 and 2005-2006 have had both school listed statewide as "high performing/gap closing" schools in both English Language Arts, mathematics, and science.

"As a result of their work, the entire district has been given the same designation, as a "high performing/gap closing" K-12 district. Only 272 of the 684 eligible districts state-wide were given that designation."

District and Middle School honored as "High Performing/Gap Closing"

The Fonda-Fultonville School District and our Middle School have been recognized by the Board of Regents and the State Education Department, as one of New York State’s 272 Title I districts that have met the criteria for designation as “high performing/gap closing.” To earn the designation, the school's students met all applicable State standards for English language arts and math during the 2005-2006 school year and also made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) in English language arts, mathematics, science and graduation rate during the 2004-2005 and 2005-2006 school years.

A recent letter from State Commissioner of Education Richard Mills stated, "You and your entire community are to be commended for leading New York forward to accomplish our dual goals of increasing student achievement while closing the gap in student performance."

District representatives have been invited to attend a formal recognition ceremony on May 14 in Brooklyn.

"I am very proud of the recognition given to our middle school and high school," said FFCSD Superintendent James D. Hoffman. "This demonstrates to the entire state of New York the hard work that parents, students, teachers, support staff, administration, and Board of Education have undertaken to ensure that a quality education is provided to the students of the Fonda-Fultonville community.

This recognition follows a similar recognition our elementary school received last spring. Our district is receiving the recognition it deserves for the effort of all of the hard work necessary to provide the top-notch program for our students."
