Three
honored in NY Ag writing contest
Three Fonda-Fultonville second-graders were among forty prize
winning students from across the state for their entries in the
12th annual New York Agriculture in the Classroom "Be Aware of
New York Agriculture" contest. Emma Agnes earned first place,
Julianna Hickey placed third, and Sierra Rose earned a second
honorable mention.
The competition is open to all students in grades Pre-K—6.
Students submit artwork, slogans, poems, stories, essays, and
posters. Winning entries will be displayed at the New York State
Fair in the Youth Building and on the New York Agriculture in
the Classroom Website.
The contest is designed to heighten agricultural awareness in
our schools. Although only two percent of our population works
on farms, 20 percent of our nation's workforce is involved in
the processing, transportation, and distribution of food and
fiber products.
